A level-up workout app with two real ladders

Most apps level you up for opening them. Here your level is arithmetic on push-ups a camera counted, and it carries a title: Ashigaru at the start, Daimyō at the top.

  • Seven samurai titles, from Ashigaru at level 1 to Daimyō at level 80
  • Six season divisions, Bronze through Master, plus Unranked before you place
  • Level is derived from lifetime XP, and a verified rep is worth 10 XP
  • No title, level or division has ever been purchasable

The short answer

Workout Samurai is a level up workout app with two ladders. Samurai titles run from Ashigaru at level 1 to Daimyō at level 80, and your level comes from lifetime XP, with every verified push-up worth 10 XP. Season divisions run Bronze to Master and measure a single season. Neither ladder can be bought.

Where your level actually comes from

Your level is one number derived from lifetime XP, and XP comes from work. A verified push-up is worth 10 XP before any bonuses, and clearing campaign levels pays XP on top of the reps themselves. The arithmetic runs on the server, so a level is not a claim you make about yourself. It is a total of reps your phone's camera counted and the server accepted.

The curve is a square root, which has two consequences worth knowing. Early levels arrive fast, so a beginner sees movement in the first week. Later levels take genuine accumulation, so the top of the ladder stays rare. It also means the rep figures further down this page are floors, not forecasts: they assume reps are your only source of XP. In the game you also clear levels and beat chapter bosses, so you will hold each title sooner than the floor suggests.

None of it moves on a button press. Every rep that feeds the ladder was counted by on-device pose detection and then validated server-side, which is what separates this from a fitness app with ranks that move on attendance, or a workout game with levels you can simply declare. If you want the number for your own total, the samurai rank calculator runs the same formula the server does.

Seven titles, running from Ashigaru, the foot soldier who starts on the ground, to Daimyō, the lord at the top of the ladder. They measure accumulated progress: everything you have ever done, added up. A title is permanent. It does not decay when you take a month off, and there is no re-test to keep it, because it records work that already happened.

Divisions answer a different question: how did you rank *this season*, against other players doing the same thing. You start a season Unranked and place into a division on the strength of verified reps you bank while it runs. When the season ends, the ladder turns over and the next one starts. Your titles are untouched by any of it.

The thresholds that separate one division from the next are set server-side and are deliberately not published, here or anywhere else. Publishing them would turn a competitive ladder into a checklist, and it would let anyone reverse-engineer the exact minimum. If you read a specific number for Diamond or Master on some other site, it was invented. How seasons and clan standings interact is covered on the clans and seasons page.

How samurai titles and season divisions differ

Conflating the two is the most common confusion. Someone who has trained for a year and then eased off holds a high title and a low division. Someone three months in, grinding sets every week, can outrank them for the season while sitting several titles below. Both statements are true, both are earned, and neither is a fake number.

Nothing on either ladder is for sale

Gems can be bought and they buy cosmetics. Armour, helmets, weapons: they change how your samurai looks and they move nothing on either ladder. There is no rank pack, no XP boost and no tier of anything that hands you a title. The game is free to download and free to play, and rank sits squarely in the free half of it.

The last three rows are the point, and the app's own comparison screen says the same thing: rank reads as *Earned* in both columns. A subscription that sold standing would make the leaderboard worthless to everyone, including the people paying for it. What Dojo Premium actually removes is waiting, not effort. The rest of the split is spelled out on what is free.

How long does it take to level up?

It depends entirely on volume, and the floors give you a way to sanity-check any plan. Samurai sits at level 20, which reps alone would reach at about 3,610 lifetime push-ups: roughly seventy days at fifty a day, and sooner once campaign XP is counted. Daimyō, at level 80, has a floor of 62,410. That is a long project measured in years for most people, and it is meant to be.

The thing that stalls people is almost never willingness. It is doing maximal sets every single day until the shoulders complain, which is covered honestly in should you do push-ups every day. Volume you can repeat beats volume you can survive once. If you are trying to move faster, the useful lever is structured progression rather than daily failure: how to increase your push-ups and how to do 100 push-ups both lay out the route.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a workout app where you actually level up?

Workout Samurai levels you up on lifetime XP, and XP comes from push-ups the camera counted and the server accepted. Level 1 is Ashigaru and level 80 is Daimyō, with five titles in between. Because the level is derived from verified work, it says something about your training rather than about how often you opened the app.

What are the ranks in Workout Samurai?

Two sets of them. Samurai titles run Ashigaru, Rōnin, Bushi, Samurai, Hatamoto, Champion, Daimyō, unlocking at levels 1, 5, 10, 20, 35, 55, 80. Season divisions run Unranked, then Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master. Titles record everything you have ever done and never reset. Divisions record one season and turn over when it ends. You hold one of each at the same time.

How do you level up in Workout Samurai?

By doing push-ups the app can verify. Each verified rep is worth 10 XP before bonuses, clearing campaign levels pays more XP on top, and your level is derived from the lifetime total. Nothing else moves it: not a purchase, not a check-in, not a set you typed in yourself.

What is the highest rank in the game?

Daimyō is the top samurai title, unlocking at level 80, which reps alone would reach at roughly 62,410 lifetime push-ups. Master is the top season division, described in the app as the summit. The reps figure is a floor, since campaign XP counts too, and the division thresholds are server-side and not published.

How many push-ups do you need to become a Samurai?

The Samurai title unlocks at level 20. On reps alone that is about 3,610 lifetime push-ups, which is a floor rather than a target: campaign levels pay XP as well, so most players arrive earlier than the raw rep count predicts. Spread across a few months it is a realistic goal for a beginner who keeps showing up.

What is the difference between a title and a division?

A title is cumulative and permanent. It comes from your level, which comes from lifetime XP, and nothing takes it away. A division is a single season's standing among other players and starts over when the season does. High title with a low division means you trained hard and then rested. The reverse means you are on a run right now.

Can you buy rank, titles or divisions?

No. Gems can be purchased and they buy cosmetics only: armour, helmets and weapons that change how you look. The optional Dojo Premium subscription removes waiting, not effort, and the app's own comparison screen lists leaderboard rank as earned in both the free and the paid column. Nothing you can pay for moves either ladder.

Do titles reset at the end of a season?

No. Titles are tied to lifetime XP, so they only ever go up. Losing Hatamoto because you missed a season would be nonsense, since the reps still happened. Only ranked divisions turn over between seasons, which is what makes a season worth contesting rather than a permanent record of who started first.

What are the division thresholds in Workout Samurai?

They are set server-side and are not published. That is a deliberate design choice: a published threshold turns a ladder into a shopping list and tells everyone the exact minimum that will do. If you find a specific rep number for Gold or Diamond somewhere online, nobody with access to the real values wrote it.

What happens to my rank if I take a week off?

Your title is untouched, because it records work you already did. Your season total simply stops growing while you rest, and other players keep banking reps. A training streak is a separate counter, and weekly rest insurance under Dojo Premium is the thing that keeps a week off from breaking one.

Is this level up workout app free?

The game is free to download and free to play on iOS and Android, and rank is part of the free half: titles, divisions, the campaign and the leaderboards. Dojo Premium is an optional subscription that lets you train without waiting, adds weekly rest insurance and lets clan boss raids run back to back.

Does the app tell me what to train each day?

No. Workout Samurai counts your push-ups, runs the campaign and keeps both ladders honest. It does not prescribe sessions or write you a plan. The programming lives in the free training guides on this site, and the program generator will turn one max test into a week-by-week structure.
